Evergreen Snowy Hillside Redo

Evergreen 005 Main R

My friend and fellow CG Crew member Aleida was over yesterday for a much needed afternoon of stamping.  She wanted to make a fun card that would teach her a little something, yet give her a great Christmas card that wasn’t too difficult to mass produce.  We had the new Expressions Thinlits in our hands and this card popped into my head.  Off we went with a slightly new take on this fun snowy card.

Creative Tips –

  • I stamped the large Evergreen solid image in various heights using a torn mask for my hillside.  First I stamped in Versamark ink and then I used Wild Wasabi.
  • To give my trees a glossy look and protect them from the brayer, I embossed all my trees in Clear Embossing powder. Evergreen 005 Side
  • Once I had my skyline done I wanted a larger trees up close that I could decorate.  I tore another mask and stamped one more Wild Wasabi Tree.
  • I created a mask for the sun.  Then I used the skyline mask and sponged over my trees in Soft Sky.
  • To accentuate the ridge, I used the reverse mask to sponge a light edge for the snow in Pool Party.
  • To create the snow drifts, I used the same mask, but alternated it’s direction.
  • I sponged in the sun using Crushed CurryEvergreen 005 CU
  • For my tree decorations, I used Pearl Basic Jewels.
  • I cut out the word Merry in Cherry Cobbler using the new Expressions Thinlit Framelits – available in the new Holiday Catalog on August 1st.
  • I matted the entire scene on a piece of Early Espresso card stock.
  • For a finishing touch I stamped a tree on the inside panel as well.
  • Evergreen 005 Main L

Aleida LOVED the card, it was fun to make and actually much faster than I anticipated.  Maybe because it was like my first, view that post here, but a bit different.  I could easily mass produce these, and their cost effective too!

Stampscapes Creative Scene

Stampscapes 001 001

Today is my brother’s birthday, and I wanted to make him something special.  Matt and I love the mountains, we spent most of our down time in the summers in the outdoors together.  So, for him today I broke out my Stampscapes scene building stamps and created this lakeside evening scene.  Stampscapes stamps can be used to build scenes with seemless blending images.

Creative Tips –

  • I stamped out my scene first layering several lakeside tree and rock stamps.
  • To keep the scene matte in nature, I used our Ultrasmooth White cardstock.
  • My first two I actually colored over the trees with my Always Artichoke and Garden Green markers, but I didn’t like the result.  The rest of the scene, I continued to use my Basic Black ink pad.  Stampscapes 001 003
  • For a little focal point at the bottom edge, I stamped the boulders at various angles and a few of the trees on the edge.  I really needed a bigger tree, but didn’t have one.  I wouldn’t use the stamp I used in this one for that again – it’s too small.
  • I added a few of the small reeds and used the grass filler for some texture at the bottom.
  • Next I filled in the empty space using my small water texture stamp.  I think I went a bit overboard, but it still works.  Remember, when you want to add one more – stop!
  • Once the scene was built I could start coloring.  I used a Colorbox stylus to apply my Stampin’ Up! Classic Inks.
  • I began layering a base of Soft Sky in the sky and near the rocks in the water.  Next I used some Pool Party in the lake followed by Tempting Turquoise.
  • For a little added color I added Baja Breeze and then Marina Mist to the both the lake and the sky.  My water was pretty much how I wanted it so I moved on to the sky.  Stampscapes 001 006
  • I tried to keep a few spots off the horizon going upward more white in nature for some contrast.
  • To brighten the scene up I added some Pacific Point across and in the middle of the night sky followed by some Not Quite Navy.
    • I wanted to have some shadows in the water, so I used the side of the stylus and some Not Quite Navy to the edge of the boulders and the edge of the card.
    • The boulders were filled in with Basic Grey and some Early Espresso was added to the edge of the center bottom for a little earth.
    • Midnight Muse gave a finishing touch around the perimeter of the card followed by Basic Grey.
    • I stamped the cloud space in Midnight Muse once the card had been completed.Stampscapes 001 005
    • For some highlighting and detailing, I used a Signo White Gel Pen.  I went over the edges in the water along the rocks after with a paper towel to dull the look a little.
    • To help pop the card, I matted it on a 1/16” border of Whisper White and then on a larger piece of Basic Black
    • The greeting uses the Four You stamp set.  I used a embossing buddy to ensure that I would not have little silver straggler powder on the Basic Black cardstock before embossing the greeting in Silver Embossing Powder.

I love the result.  The Stampin’ Up! inks give just the right depth of color.  Next, I’m going to try some brayering with these scenes.  I can’t wait!Stampscapes 001 002

A Big Shot Birthday

004

My niece Chiarra is in Orlando for a visit for her 8th birthday.  I felt she needed a fun card with her name on it – since she never finds anything with her name!  So I took out my trusty Big Shot, some of my favorite BigZ dies and went to work.

009

I created a fun background with the Chevron Embossing Folder in Pink Pirouette and cut her name out using a retired set of BigZ dies in Rich Razzleberry.  For the greeting I used my Word program to write Happy  th Birthday in a fun font – Pea Mel in Between – it’s a handwriting font, and I added the Number 8 from the Typeset Alphabet BigZ dies.  I printed it on vellum and tore it before attaching it with two mini-brads.

003

Chiarra loved the card and especially the gifts to go with it!  There’s nothing like a personalized birthday card to make you feel special.

Clean and Simple Chalk Talk Birthday

Chalk Talk 001 Main R

This week is always a big Birthday week for everyone I know, this month actually.  So why not keep with the celebration theme?  Chalk Talk has not only this awesome stamp set, but a great tag framelit set that anyone can use.  Today I made a very simple, but elegant card that actually fits any celebration, not just birthdays.  I have to admit, it was a little simple to me, until I put the Pearl Basic Jewels on.  Then it all came together and worked.  I wish I actually had taken a before and after photo, it made that much of a difference!

Chalk Talk 001 Front

Creative Tips –

  • I actually made this little tag for all of Michael’s birthday presents on Saturday.  They completely worked – and best thing – I didn’t even have to write on it!  Once I whipped these little guys up, this card popped in my head.Chalk Talk 001 CU
  • Obviously it’s a present, but the Chevron Embossing Folder really adds a nice touch to what would be the wrapping paper.
  • If you didn’t have ribbon, you could easily substitute strips of card stock.  I would still wrap them around the edge of the gift for that gift wrapped look.Chalk Talk 001 Height
  • To emphasize the gift, I popped it up with dimensionals, along with the greeting portion of the tag.
  • The Happy Big Day tag is actually two tags from this set.  Chalk Talk 001 Side
  • Proportions made the difference on this card.  I have the full 1/8” border at the base, so I needed any other Mattes to be 1/16”.

I love this card – and I think I’m going to make a bunch, they serve so many occasions – birthday, wedding, promotion, any firsts, etc…  What other occasions do you think it would fit?  Let me know if the comment section and I’ll send one to one random winner!  Who wouldn’t want one of these in the mail – I know I love mail…other than bills, right?

Fabulous Florets Mojo

Fabulous Florets 001 Main R

It’s a fabulous Mojo Monday morning!  I thought I’d have some fun with the Fabulous Florets stamp set – which is a new one for me.  The flower images in this set are super easy to stamp with – and just gorgeous.  I can see that this will quickly become a favorite, especially when doing any kind of wedding ideas!

I’ve been working hard on my online class as you know and think I almost have the membership portion worked out!  I decided to release the class and email the links until I can get the rest figured out – that way you can still have some fun learning how to brayer – so check that out at the bottom!

Here is this weeks Mojo Monday sketch and my interpretation – pretty literal this week, and I just love this card – especially the colors.I hope you do to – let me know what you think in the comments!

            Fabulous Florets 001 FrontMojo302Sketch

Creative Tips –

  • I did something different with my color coach today.  Usually I just thumb through it and find a main color I like.  Today, I looked only at the combinations on the back until one spoke to me.  I chose the Elegant Eggplant, Always Artichoke, Sahara Sand combo.Fabulous Florets 001 Angle
  • I played with arranging how my colors were going to be layered – I have to admit, it took me at least 5 minutes to decide!  I finally went with Always Artichoke as the card base and the then the rest fell into line.
  • I was lucky, I had the Sahara Sand card front already pierced from another project, so that was easy this morning!Fabulous Florets 001 CU
  • For a little contrast, I stamped my Elegant Eggplant in various images using all the flowers and the leaf stamp.  I stamped the bold image on Sahara Sand and cut that out to pop up as an embellishment.
  • I just wanted something simple in the foreground, so I ran my Always Artichoke though my Big Shot using the Chevron Embossing Folder.
  • For a greeting I used the new Hostess set – Banner Greetings.  Isn’t it cute?!Fabulous Florets 001 Faux Ribbon
  • I did not have any ribbon in any of these three colors – which honestly was surprising!  I must have used up all my Always Artichoke – I know I had some.  So, I made my own.  I distressed the edges of a piece of Sahara Sand and made a knot to resemble ribbon.  Here a video on how to make Faux Ribbon Fabulous Florets 001 Height
  • For some depth in my card, I popped up the Sahara Sand card base, Flower and Banner.
  • It’s a good looking card – I love the color combination.  I think it would work for anyone, and for a total masculine look, you could substitute the flowers for a general image – I’m thinking the Lacy & Lovely stamp set. SmileFabulous Florets 001 Main L

    Chalk Talk Birthday Wishes

    Chalk Talk 003 Main R

Who doesn’t love a bright and cheery Birthday card?  Today I’ve combined the new Chalk Talk stamp set and framelit collection with some of our new Eastern Elegance Designer Series Paper and the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set for a fun little Birthday for someone special.  I needed a quick and easy birthday card, I’ve been stamping, filming and editing my Brayer 101 – Introduction the Creative online video class series the last few days.  It’s almost ready – look for it tomorrow!  If you’ve taken the live class with me, you’ll love this class too – the projects are all different!

    Creative Tips –

    • I stamped the large tag in So Saffron and cut it out using the Chalk Talk Collection Framelits.  If you get the stamp set and the framelits together – it’s a bundle and you save 15%!  I’m all about savings. Chalk Talk 003 CU
    • To give a little variety to my tag, I stamped it again in Rose Red and cut out the banner within the tag.  I tried it on white, but it didn’t look right.
    • I wanted to add a little splash of design behind my tag, but I didn’t want to take away from it, so I picked a simple design and then created another with my stripe stamp from the gorgeous grunge set.
    • To make my banner ends I used the 1” square punch for the smaller banner and cut the large one with my paper snipsCheck out this video on how to make Banner Flags Chalk Talk 003 Side
    • I used the Greeting from the new Four You stamp set, it covers all bases without breaking the bank!
    • I popped my greeting banner and Chalk Talk tag up on Stamping Dimensionals for some depth to the card.
    • For finishing touches, I added a little piercing to the extra white space at the top of the card and some Pearl Basic Jewels on the tag, banner and card.

It’s a fun card that is bright, cherry and simple.  Best of all it took me under 10 minutes to make!  My kind of birthday card. Smile

    Beautifully Baroque Wedding Card

Beautifully Baroque Wedding Card 002 Main L

I needed an elegant wedding card this week for a family member.  The new Beautifully Baroque Embossing Folder was just perfect for such an occasion.  Paired with our rich Elegant Eggplant – the bride’s color, and our gorgeous Shimmery White card stock, this card definitely hits the mark.

    Creative Tips –

    • I created a beautiful shimmery Baroque paper using the Bisque Pottery Technique and the Illuminate Glimmer Watermark Ink Pad.Beautifully Baroque Wedding Card 002 CU
    • Use the brayer to color the top portion of your Embossing Folder with the Illuminate Pad, place your Elegant Eggplant cardstock on the lower piece of the folder, close and emboss.  The result is a gorgeous shimmery result that looks like velvet.
    • To pair the rich embossed piece, I used our Shimmery White card stock.  It’s a wedding after all!
    • The greeting is embossed in Silver and I added a few Pearl Basic Jewels at the top for some added elegant finishing touches.Beautifully Baroque Wedding Card 002 Bow
    • I normally don’t do bows – they’re big and bulky, but with this being a wedding card, my go to knot isn’t going to cut it – don’t think I didn’t try…lol!  It would be cute, no – tying the knot?  Michael would have questioned it, so I went with the bow.  To get it exactly where I wanted it, I attached a piece of Ribbon first, anchored my cardstock onto the card and then used a separate piece to tie the knot.  You can also completely tie it separately and attach it with a Glue Dot.  That didn’t work for me this time, so I tied it.Beautifully Baroque Wedding Card 002 Side

The end result is a gorgeous rich textured card.  This card is 5”x7”, and since we’re sending a check along as we can’t attend this one, I wanted to send a special card.  I’m actually quite sad we can’t go to this one. Sad smile

    Mojo Textures and Prints

    Oh Hello 002 Main R

Card making can be clean and simple yet at the same time rich in texture and print.  For this weeks Mojo Monday challenge, I broke out my Oh, Hello stamp set that has this awesome Chevron oval in it.  The patter is tight, precise and really does a number on your eyes when you stare at – it’s an optical illusion – it moves!  Since this weeks sketch focused on an oval, I thought why not give it some texture, or at least the illusion of it.

          Oh Hello 002 FrontMojo301Sketch

    Creative Tips –

    • I started out using my color coach and the top combination from Soft Suede – using Bermuda Bay and Blushing Bride.
    • To go along with that great stamp, I brought in my two favorites – Gorgeous Grunge for my striped pattern and the Dictionary Background stamp for a simple print.
    • I distressed the Blushing Bride piece for some contrast using my Distress Tool.Oh Hello 002 CU
    • To compliment the Dictionary print, I embossed my Bermuda Bay card stock to give it some texture using the new Alphabet Press Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.
    • After stamping the Chevron oval, I cut it out using the #4 Oval in my Oval Collection Framelits.  Rather than matte it with a larger oval, I just edged it in a darker shade using Early Espresso.Oh Hello 002 Height
    • To give a little distinction to the oval, I popped it up on Stamping Dimensionals.
    • I created a banner using my 1” Square Punch and one of the three greetings in the Oh, Hello set.  I love it when stamp sets have greetings!Oh Hello 002 Banner
    • For the wave in the banner, I adhered the ends down and popped up the middle using two Stamping Dimensionals.  I curled up the ends of the banner using my Bone Folder.
    • The flower was created with Blushing Bride and Early Espresso card stocks using the Blossom Party Originals BigZ die.  For the center I used the circle from the Itty Bitty Punch Pack and Crushed Curry card stock.  The leaves were punched out using the retired Blossom Petals Builder Punch. Oh Hello 002 Flower
    • I added a few Pearl Basic Jewels for a finishing touch to the Oval, Banner, main card and Flower center.
    • For a final finishing touch, I added a little piercing using the Essentials Paper Piercing Pack. Oh Hello 002 Main L

It’s a fun color combination and this card is great for just any occasion.  I hope you like it and have fun making your own!
