Mojo Epic Day

Really Good Greetings Main

Hello Mojo Monday fans!  Today you’re getting a sneak peek into the new Greeting set Really Good Greetings combined with the all new Epic Day Designer Series Paper and one awesome sketch!  I wanted to do a birthday card today since it’s my good friend Becky’s birthday today.  We’ve lived an amazing life as good friends for the past 20+ years since we went to the University of Utah together – so I thought she deserved an epic card for today!  Read on to see all the creative details that went into making this card.

              Mojo293SketchReally Good Greetings Front

Creative Details:

  • I decided to flip the orientation of the card to suit my banners better.  They already are only 1/2” wide so I didn’t want to lose too much of the cool design in the Epic Day DSP.
  • One of the things I love about Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper is that on the back of the package it tells you what colors are used.  So you don’t have to try to figure out which colors are used in the patterns.  Let me tell you, that rocks!Really Good Greetings Side
  • I went with a few neutrals as my main colors based on those used in the DSP.  I then added the pool party because it was a subtle little color pop.  The Epic Day This and That DSP already has so much going on, I didn’t want to overwhelm my card.
  • I decided to emboss my saying using Versamark ink and the new Pool Party Embossing Powder available in our Spring Mini Catalog.  I first didn’t use an Embossing Buddy, but that experiment didn’t go over so well.  Here is an example of one without an Embossing Buddy and one with.  Really Good Greetings No EBReally Good Greetings W EB
  • An Embossing Buddy rubbed over your cardstock will get rid of the oils and static that embossing powder loves to cling to.  With a greeting that is so detailed an fine, you can clearly see why you need one.
  • To make my banners, I used a 1” Square Punch.  For my video on how to make these cool little embellishments click here.
  • I wanted a little something on my Pool Party strip that wouldn’t take away from the rest of my card, so I dragged my Pool Party Classic Ink pad directly over the top for a little texture.  It was that perfect little something the card needed.Really Good Greetings CU
  • I tied a bow originally for the top embellishment, but you know, I’m just not a bow kind of person.  To I changed it to a single know with some of our linen thread coming out of it.  Tip – the best way to attach a knot like this is with Glue Dots.
  • Instead of adding a larger circle for a border in Basic Gray, I just edged my circles directly with my ink pad.  It was that little separation to the rest of the card.
  • Finally, I popped up my greeting for a little drama in the card.  I know you’re thinking drama?  But it is something that sets it apart.  To me it’s an embellishment being dramatic, so yet – drama in your card!  (Yes, I know I am goofy sometimes!)
  • Really Good Greetings Height

I love the end result, I hope you do too!  The DSP that I used today is meant to coordinate with our new This and That Book and products.  If you haven’t checked it out yet, be sure to.  It’s a very trendy cool way to capture your life and I think you’ll love all the cool things that coordinate with this epic paper. Mojo Artistic Etchings

Artistic Etchings 003 Main

I just love the set Artistic Etchings, it gives me the sense of being in Paris at a sidewalk café sipping a cappuccino and people watching.  I just love it when paper crafting takes me somewhere else.  This morning I went to check out the Mojo Monday sketch and have to tell you, I struggled.  The Mojo just wasn’t flowing.  Then I decided to go to one of my favorite stamp sets – Artistic Etchings.  The card then quickly came together – the stamping not so much…lol!

This morning I had to repeat the crown literally…NINE times!!!  The sad thing is that was even using a Stamp-a-Majig!  I know, you’re saying…I’m so glad it’s not just me sometimes!  (Okay, I should stop using exclamation marks so much in the morning…but that’s how I feel!)  The sad thing is that my first go at the crown was perfect, till as I put the whole card together, some Basic Gray ink got on my fingernail and (can you see where this is going) ultimately my perfectly stamped square.  Normally I don’t care too much, but it was squarely in the white area and just didn’t make the cut anymore.

Okay – on to the creative tips part of this card…

Mojo290SketchArtistic Etchings 003 Front

Creative Tips:

  • When I pull the Eiffel Tower stamp out I immediate gravitate toward my Basic Gray Ink Pad.  I know, cliché, but I can’t help it, any other color to me just isn’t right (it’s a total personal choice) Smile
  • I knew I wanted the Eiffel Tower in the center, long and popped up, so the other two main images were easy to choose.  The dimensions just kind of happened.  I used my Grid Paper (can’t live without it), to help me perfect the size.  I wanted to have just a pop of Basic Gray Cardstock, so I knew I wanted a 1/16th border.  My dimensions settled on 1 5/8” x 1 3/8” for the smaller white and 1 5/8” x 2 7/8” for the Tower.  Increase your Basic Gray dimensions by 1/8” width and height for the 1/16” border – 1 3/4” x 1 1/2” and 1 3/4” x 3”.Artistic Etchings 003 Side
  • I decided to use a Cherry Cobbler backing of 5 1/4” x 4”.  I put a 2” x 5 1/4” piece of Designer Series Paper from the Fan Fair collection on the bottom.  It had some Basic Gray and Cherry Cobbler in it that added some great character to the card.  I love this collection, it feels worldly to me.
  • I used some 1/2” Seam Binding Ribbon in Cherry Cobbler and tied a flat knot.  Artistic Etchings 003 CU
  • I went back and forth on whether to even put a greeting on the card, but ultimately decided on the Amour stamp that comes with this set.  I think it was the use of Cherry Cobbler in my project that swayed me – this card screams love to me – maybe it’s the whole Eiffel Tower/Paris connection.Artistic Etchings 003 Height
  • As finishing touches I added the three sizes of Pearl Basic Jewels as an accent to my greeting and popped both the greeting banner (made with a 1” Square Punch) and the Eiffel Tower up on Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Ultimately I love the final result, but I have to say it was a little difficult this morning…lol!  I do love this challenge and I encourage you to take the Mojo Monday sketch above and give it a shot!  Have a great week and be sure to check back Wednesday – our retiring list is coming out!!

Mojo Monday Big Shot Flowers

Today is the big online extravaganza.  And since the several items are on sale for the first time I can remember, I thought I’d make a fun clean and simple card featuring what else, my trusted friend the Big Shot – just one of the featured products today.

Mojo268Sketch

Creative Tips:

  • I added texture to my Pink Pirouette flower from the Floral Frames Framelits by using the new Fancy Fan Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.
  • The So Saffron flower is the second smallest framelit in this great set of nested frames.  I highlighted it with a little sponging around the edges
  • I used the ornament punch to create the Wild Wasabi leaf for my three flowers.

  • To create my Elegant Eggplant smashed flower – I used two of the smallest flowers from this Framelit set.  Click here to watch my Smashed Flower Video
  • To make my banner flag end I used a square punch.
  • I wanted to add some small details without taking away from the flowers, so I added some paper piercing around the border of my Bashful Blue and then Pearl Basic Jewels in each corner.

Mojo Monday Blooming with Kindness

It’s that time again – Mojo Monday!  Today’s sketch was easy to work with.  I quickly took out my newest set – Blooming with Kindness and got to work.  I was remembering these flowers in a deep purplish blue from my childhood and quickly decided that I would double stamp it in Marina Mist and Eggplant.  I took out my Color Coach for some ideas and settled on Crumb Cake to go along with the Marina Mist and Whisper White.

Mojo267Sketch

Creative Tips:

  • I used my Stamp-a-Majig to place my flower stamp directly on and then slightly off for a striking look.  I didn’t want the center too doubled, so I definitely needed a Stamp-a-Majig.
  • I wanted a little pop of color, so I chose Garden Green for some of the Big Shot die cut Little Leaves Sizzlits.
  • I stamped the flower in Marina Mist on Marina in Mist cardstock and then punch out a butterfly using the new Elegant Butterfly punch.  I added some Pearl Basic Jewels and outlined the Butterfly with the Marina Mist Marker for some depth.

  • To give the Butterfly the look of flight I secured the center down with glue dots while popping up the wings with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • I stamped the flower in Elegant Eggplant on the coordinating cardstock for that little something in the background.
  • One of the great things about this set is that it comes with five sayings.  I chose the Birthday saying and created a banner with the 1” Square Punch.
  • I used the Scallop Trim Border Punch to create a whimsical border in Whisper White to the right of the flower.

I absolutely love how this card turned out.  I definitely think cutting the flower out was the best way to highlight it versus stamping it onto a larger block.  This card is clean, simple and elegant.  I hope you enjoy it too!

Mojo Monday Snow Swirled Card

It’s Mojo Monday again.  I love starting out the week this way.  My first thing to do is make a creative card – best part – I don’t have to design the layout!  This card quickly came together for me.  I added a little Cherry Cobbler bling to it, and I love the result.  I hope you do to!

Mojo266Sketch

Creative Tips:

  • Rather than leave my Christmas tree on a vanilla block mat with a lot of white space, I wanted to be able to see the Designer Series Paper and other colors – so I cut it out and popped it up using dimensionals.
  • I used Be of Good Cheer DSP for the patterned paper.
  • I wanted to highlight the snowflake aspect of the card, so I added a little drop of Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details first the the center of the snowflakes and then just a few more to fill in the  tree.
  • Dazzling Details needs a little bit to dry, so I gave my tree a quick pass with my new Heat Tool on the low setting.  It dried in no time – which is great for me, because if I let it dry naturally, I’m famous for checking before it’s time and ruining my project!
  • For the snowflakes, I used the Snow Flurry Bigz Die in Very Vanilla and Red Glimmer Paper.

  • I created the banner flag end for the greeting with a square punch.
  • For the large banner, since I didn’t have a square punch large enough, I marked the center with a line as high as I wanted to cut from the end.  I used Paper Snips to cut from the points to the line – it’s better than trying to free hand it.

  • This card has a lot of dimension to it, the main vanilla panel is popped up, along with the tree, snowflakes and greeting.
  • The paper piercing adds that perfect finishing touch to the Cherry Cobbler block – it balances the card out nicely.

Snow Swirled has a great Christmas greeting in the set, but I needed something long and thin to fill the space, so I chose my old standby – Sweet Essentials.

Mojo Monday Birthday

I love Mojo Mondays!  This morning I really was challenged by this sketch.  I don’t do many round cards, so I thought I’d take the square challenge on.  I love how this creation turned out.  This is a very special birthday card for my sweet Mother-In-Law’s 85th birthday.  I wanted a card that was fun, classy and colorful, just like her!  Happy Birthday Vigie!  Here are some fun creative tips for you.

Mojo265Sketch

Creative tips:

  • Keep your mattes uniform.  Here I played with some 1/16” mattes.  I did switch up the colors since the International Bazaar DSP were so colorful.
  • Strips of card stock are great fillers for an odd amount of space.  Here you see Tangerine Tango 3/8” strips behind the greeting.  They added a fun element to this birthday card and are a great way to use up scraps!
  • I had a strange amount of white the the top two corners, so I added a little piercing.  To continue this flow I decided to add a smaller amount to the corners of the Lucky Limeade Matte as well.

  • To create the banner ends, use a square punch.
  • My original idea was to stamp the greeting on several sheets of cardstock and cut out some of the letters, giving the greeting a fun feel, but since the card had so many colors already, I decided to stick with the Clean and Simple look of just one color – Rich Razzleberry.
  • To create a little pop, the Greeting Accent Framelit is popped up by using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • This greeting can be ordered in this set Seasonal Greetings or by itself until January 2, 2013.  Click here for Single Stamp Details
  • When adding Pearl Basic Jewels to your project – use a paper-piercer or Paper Snips tip to lift them from the sheet.  That way you will easily grab the glue dot beneath the pearl and have a much easier time placing it on your project.

I hope you love the end result as much as I do.  Enjoy making yours!

Mojo Monday Poppies

It’s Mojo Monday again and I really needed the inspiration this morning.  Do you ever just have that kind of a day where you can’t seem to get inspired?  Today is one for me, so this card came in handy.  I saw the sketch and immediately went to work.  I opened my drawer of my newest stamps and the Pleasant Poppies background stamp just popped (okay, a little pun intended) out at me.  Here’s what I came up with from this sketch:

Mojo263Sketch

  • I wasn’t sure which colors to use, so I grabbed my Color Coach for some inspiration.  I settled on Riding Hood Red and loved the Creative Combination of Riding Hood Red, Baja Breeze and So Saffron.
  • After playing around with the three colors, I decided a white background would make them pop the most.  Since the Riding Hood Red was such a strong color, I decided to use it as the Window Framelit Accent.  From there the colors just fell into place.
  • I inked up the left side of my Pleasant Poppies Stamp with StazOn Jet Black Ink to highlight that part of the stamp.  I cut it out using the second to smallest Framelit in the Window Frames Collection.

I colored the Poppies using my Aqua Painter and Tangerine Tango, Pumpkin Pie, Wild Wasabi inks.

I made the banner end by using a square punch.

  • I wanted a little more texture to the card, so ran my So Saffron card stock through the Big Shot with the Fancy Fan Folder.

I like the Clean and Simple look to this card.  I hope you do too!  Now that you have a little inspiration, what are you going to create?

Mojo Monday Thanks

Don’t you just love the beginning of the week?  Yes, I know the weekend is over, but it’s a fresh start to another week!  Can you tell that I’m a ‘glass is half full’ kind of person? So this Monday I walked into my creative studio and thought what should work on?  I wanted a little inspiration, so I checked out what the Mojo Monday sketch was for today, and voila!  Here is where this sketch took me.

Mojo262

  • I grabbed my Artistic Etchings stamp set and immediately focused on two stamps – the Eiffel Tower and the round medallion.
  • I looked at my Color Coach and the color Primrose Petals jumped out at me.  I quickly looked at the combination options and loved the Basic Gray, Primrose Petals and Summer Starfruit.  I also liked the other options to throw in Baja Breeze and here is the result
  • Because Summer Starfruit can overtake a project, I decided to use it as a highlight color underneath my embossed header.
  • I tried to use Primrose Petals and Basic Gray Ribbons, but the Summer Starfruit Satin Stitched Ribbon was the perfect pop to the card.  Obviously it too was the perfect choice for my crown embellishment.

  • I used the Medallion as the focus for the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower which is popped up on Dimensionals – I used the edging strip for this image since it is so thin – don’t throw that piece out!
  • For my banners, I stamped the medallion in Primrose Petals on Whisper White.  It gives this ornate look which is a perfect compliment to the Lacy Brocade Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.
  • To give a cool look to my circle embellishment in the center, I stamped the medallion and then used the points of the crown as a border around the edge.  It looks quite ornate.

I wanted the sentiment to be small, so I used Teeny Tiny Wishes and created a small banner to fly from the top of the Eiffel Tower.

This stamp set is a great set to try collage stamping with, but I just love the little touches it gave my Mojo Monday card.  I hope you will try your own!
