Stampin’ Up! 25th Anniversary Best of Birthdays Blog Hop

blogtour-25years

Thanks for joining me tonight!  I’m stop #3 on the RemARKable Blog Tour!  You probably came from my good friend Linda’s blog Ink Stamp and Scrap – I so love her work!

Have you ever just taken one look at a stamp and had a card just pop into your head?  Well, that’s what happened to me with this stamp set – Best of Birthdays.  Best of Birthdays is Stampin’ Up!’s 25th Anniversary stroll down memory lane stamp set.  It’s the first of it’s kind and each set has a fresh, never before released image in it!  The main image in my card today is that new image – and I just love it.

Creative Tips:

  • I knew the moment I mounted this stamp that I wanted to emboss it with the new Pewter Embossing Powder.  And boy was I right – it’s stunning, especially on black.
  • I punched out the image using our Extra Large Oval Punch.
  • To give a little more detail to the image, I stamped it again, tone on tone in Cherry Cobbler on the 3/4” banner.  I made the banner end using a 1” Square Punch and popped it up on Dimensionals.

  • I just love this paper from the Sycamore Street Collection in the Sale-a-bration catalog.  You can still get this amazing set of Designer Series Paper for free with a $50 purchase.
  • The Pattern is rich in design and detail, so I wanted to pop it just a little by adding the 1/16” black matte.
  • I decided to keep the Summer Starfruit as the main color and added a panel behind the DSP.  I like the contrast between the Starfruit, Black and Cobbler.  They are all rich, so it works.
  • For just the right finishing touch, I added a few Pearl Basic Jewels at the top and bottom.  I wanted to kick them up a notch so I altered every other one in size.

  • To keep my proportions just right, I added five at the top and only three at the bottom since the banner and greeting were at the bottom.
  • Tip – To place my pearls just right I use my Paper-Piercer to transfer them from the sheet to my project.  They don’t remain stuck to the metal of the point.  It works great!

I love the final look of this card.  The best part, it literally came together in minutes.  It’s elegant, sophisticated and simple.  You have to love that!

Next up you will see what our next RemARKable Blogger Melissa Bollinger has creatively put together for you on our next Blog Tour stop – just click the 25th Anniversary button below.  Enjoy, thanks for stopping by and happy stamping!

Secret Garden Simplicity

Sometimes the simplest ideas are just the best.  Today I wanted to make a few quick cards to send to members of The Creative Grove for their awesome achievements this past month.  I ended up loving the result so much that I made a few more for my recent party hostesses!  I know they’ll love getting these cards in the mail as a heartfelt thank you from me for supporting my small local business.

Here are the specifics for you to whip up a few of your own!

Creative Tips:

  • I settled on a combination of yellows – So Saffron, More Mustard and Daffodil Delight with a pop of Tangerine Tango.
  • I wanted the leaves to show and not the stem of the leaves, so I stamped on strips that were 2.25” x 11” or 8.5” (depending on what size card I was making).   The best part – I just grabbed strips out of my scrap bin!
  • I created a master strip by stamping my four images together than working across my strip to get the spacing down.  I then used the same pattern to quickly mass produce the others – using one stamp at a time.
  • I wanted to add a little color to the lined flower stamp which I stamped in Tangerine Tango, so I stamped it over the So Saffron solid image of the daisy.  So Saffron is such a light color that the combination really worked together.
  • The great part about this card is that less is more.  Because the images are so striking, I didn’t want to clutter up my card with a ton of cardstock.  I made sure my stamped strip went end to end.
  • These cards are traditional sizes – 5.5”x8.5” and 4.25”x11”.
  • I stamped my greeting from my go to set – Sweet Essentials in Tangerine Tango.

You will be able to whip up several of these in minutes! I made six cards in 20 minutes.

Sneek Peek Feeling Sentimental

I’m in love with the New Feeling Sentimental Stamp Set.  The images are large and have that vintage feel to them.  I find them easy to stamp with and coordinate with embossing folders as well as several of our Designer Series Papers.  The two stamps I used are two of four in this great stamp set. These cards can be made in a matter of minutes.  Here are a few samples I quickly put together.

Creative Tips:

  • This old fashioned set looks great stamped.  Best part, it has that blurry edge so perfection isn’t needed!  The images are a good size as well.
  • I made two types of samples, one with the Parker’s Patterns Designer Series Paper, and another with the Honeycomb Textured Impressions Embossing folder.
  • I found that the saying Celebrate looks great either on a banner or just stamped directly on.  Some sayings to me need a little something, but this one stands alone just great.

  • Here I popped up the Vanilla panel for a little added depth to the card.
  • This is one of the two subdued papers in the Parker’s Patterns DSP collection.  I just love the old fashioned feel of this card.

This stamp set is part of our Sale-a-bration exclusive collection only available January 22 – March 22, 2013.  You will not want to miss out on this special offer.  All Sale-a-bration products are FREE as a thank you for your $50 product order.  To see the collection online January 22, 2013 click here.

Mojo Monday Lacy & Lovely Hello

I never knew that I would come to love Monday mornings so much.  That’s right, it’s Mojo Monday time again!  This first full week of December is cram packed and I was hoping for a sketch that would come together quickly, and I was not disappointed.  When I saw the trio of hearts in the Mojo sketch, my mind immediately went to the stamp set Lacy & Lovely.  This is a stamp set that is perfect for all occasions and one set that every stamper needs.  If you don’t have it yet, let me know and I’ll be sure to contact Santa to make sure that you get it under the tree this year!

Mojo270Sketch

Creative Tips:

  • I chose a background paper that wasn’t going to dominate the card.  The Designer Series Paper Stacks in each color family gave me the perfect simple design.  I chose the 2011-2013 In Color collection and used Pool Party.
  • To make sure that my Large Scallop Edgelit cut straight, I held it in place on top of my card stock with a post it note.
  • I kept the border of my greeting from the Lacy & Lovely set only 1/16” so that it wouldn’t dominate that space.
  • Pearl Basic Jewels are just the right finishing touch for the three stamped circles.
  • I used the 1”, 1 3/8” and 1 3/4” circle punches to cut out my images.

This card came together really quickly and the color combination makes a statement.  I absolutely love the look and I think anyone who gets this card will immediately smile, since that’s what it makes me do!

Every Little Bit of Holiday Fun

I love stamp sets that are versatile.  One of my favorite stamp sets to use when I need something time specific throughout the year is the stamp set Every Little Bit.  This stamp set literally covers the year from one end to the other from holidays and moments.  I like to pair it with Petite Pairs for the greetings, another versatile greeting set.  I hope you like this card as much as I do!

This card is a classic and quite easy to make in a few minutes.  Every Little Bit has several stamps that would work for the holidays: an ornament, stocking, gift, menorah, star, and a snowflake.

Creative Tips:

  • The Petals-a-plenty embossing folder is perfect for this project because to me it looks like little poinsettia flowers.
  • I made several of this card in various colors, and some with paper knots, ribbon, or without.
  • To add a little flair to the card, I added a little dazzling diamonds to the colored images.
  • My favorite one is the white on white card.  It’s simple, but just perfect!
  • To make the faux bow with the on the green card I used cardstock.  Click here to see my video tutorial on how to make this
  • To color my images I used a blender pen and my ink pads.  Tip – squeeze your Stampin’ Up! ink pads to collect ink in the lid.  Then use a blender pen and you’ll have a marker for every color of ink you have!

I just love this set.  I have used it for several times throughout the year.  And it’s perfect if I need a quick and easy card.

Neutral Poppies

Sometimes simple is better. I love the Pleasant Poppies background stamp.  I’ve never been able to get so much use from a background stamp before.  The versatility is just great.  This Clean and Simple (CAS) card is just perfect for any occasion – and gender.  Again, versatility is great!  Here are a few tips to help you achieve this great look.

Creative Tips:

  • Keep the color throughout your project.  I know poppies are normally orange, but the neutrality of this project is just fine.
  • White space is a key component to Clean and Simple cards.  To help add depth to this project, a tiny bit of paper-piercing in the corners go a long way.
  • Keep the font of your greeting simple as well.  You’ll change the look of the card by adding a script rather than a printed font.  I love the look of the set Made for You.  Three simple greetings in lower case font that are just the right size for any project – and it’s only $8.95 for all three!

To tie my ribbon just perfect, I use the simple rule of right over left, left over right (or vice versa).  I do not wrap my ribbon around my project, instead, I tie a know with a large ring loop.  I then figure out where I want my ribbon and cut the loop directly below it.  I save on ribbon, and it’s easy to tie.

  • If I place my saying in the bottom right corner, then I add my embellishment to the left side to provide balance.
  • Think about popping your final card front up on Stampin’ Dimensionals for a finishing touch.  It adds dimension to your project – especially when you have paper-piercing on that layer.

Stampin’ Up! Every Little Bit Pumpkin Pie

One of my favorite things about the fall are all the baking scents that fill the air.  Thanksgiving just wouldn’t be the same without a little Pumpkin and Apple Pie.  So this card is my Ode to the one thing I REALLY look forward to each year – baking and eating the pies!

This card is a Clean and Simple (CAS) project that just came together rather quickly.  I wanted to keep lots of ‘white space’ to showcase the simplicity of the images.  That was my focal point.  I popped up the vanilla cardstock for a little depth to the card.

Here are a few tips for you to help you re-create it and be sure to stop by tomorrow for my first Technique Spotlight video on how I make my cardstock ribbons.

  • The Stampin’ Up! Big Shot TIEF Argyle Embossing Folder is a great go to folder for me when I need that little something that doesn’t dominate the background.  It lends that little something to help fill the space.
  • The Every Little Bit set is a great set for those who love to color and want something that provides for every occasion all year long.  I chose this Pie stamp to highlight what I love most about Thanksgiving – the Pie!
  • Watercolor Crayons come in each color family.  They are simple to use and paired with our Aqua Painters you will have hours worth of fun.  To watercolor I just draw a line on the outline and use my Aqua Painter to pull the color through the image.  Here I used Pumpkin Pie, Real Red and Soft Suede.

  • I ran out of Vanilla ribbon this morning – but don’t stress if that happens to you.  I simply made my own coordinated faux ribbon by using paper scraps.  Watch my Technique Spotlight video to see how to quickly make your own too. Watch Video Here
  • Teeny Tiny Wishes is a must have for every stamper.  I used the Happy Thanksgiving saying from this versatile set.  Be cause they are teeny tiny, I stamped it three times in my two colors – Pumpkin Pie and Chocolate Chip.

  • To line up my saying I stamped from the top down, lining up the top of my rubber stamp (I use clear stamps) with the bottom of the saying above it.  It gives me perfect spacing in between and rarely do I mess up.  But if I try it from the bottom up – forget it – I never get it right!  Funny, isn’t it.

Chat & Challenge Thanksgiving Card

One of the stamping communities, Sudsol,  I belong to has a few standing challenges each week.  I happened to be sitting at my desk when last night’s Chat & Challenge started.  I jumped right in and quickly whipped up this fun little card.  I’m quite excited – as it’s my second Thanksgiving card done – only 8 more to go to hit my Thanksgiving Stamping goal!

Chat & Challenge Sketch Chat & Challenge PM Sketch

This is a perfect Clean and Simple (CAS) card.  I love all the ‘white’ space.

  • I chose More Mustard as my base, and went straight to my Color Coach for my other two colors – Cajun Craze and Night of Navy.  This is the creative combination option.
  • I used Lovely as a Tree (only my second time – read my other post here about my history with this great stamp set)
  • The oak leaves serve as the stamped Cajun Craze background.  I also stamped the little leaf in Cajun Craze on More Mustard for the perfect little embellishment.
  • To kick my card up a notch, I spritzed the Cajun Craze card stock with the Gold Glow Smooch Spritz.
  • My perfect finishing touches are to pop the saying and leaf up while adding a little paper piercing to the Night of Navy and the complimenting opposite corners of the Cajun Craze.
  • The sides of the greeting was made using my Decorative Label Punch.  I kept one side under and the rest I pulled through so I would only punch one side at a time.  I used the outside guide of the Essentials Paper-Piercing Pack to then add detailing to the sides.
  • I stamped my greeting from Seasonal Sayings in Cajun Craze and then just barely rolled the edges in Not Quite Navy.  Did you know that you can order the sayings from this stamp set individually too!  Check out more information here.

Fix it Tip:

  • If you mess up your Paper Piercing – for example, a bit crooked, fill in your the reversed side of the paper with your nails.
  • The reversed side will be the bumpy side.
  • You will still see a slight impression, but it’s rather slight.  You can then fix where you intended to punch.
  • This works best if you are only fixing a small amount – if you have 20 holes to fix, you may want to start over.
  • Look at my upper left corner of my Greeting – I ‘fixed’ five holes.
  • It’s hard to see with the naked eye on the actual project because there is so much going on with the card – of course you see it now because you know!

How many Thanksgiving cards will you be making this year?  I think I’ll whip up a batch of these – they are quick, easy and I love the color combination!
