Farewell, Two Peas…

two peas in a bucket

The scrapbooking industry has seen many doors close over the last 6+ years.  It always breaks my heart to see independent owners close doors to something that changed an industry.  Two Peas in a Bucket is no exception.  This scrapbooking giant was THE place to be in the early days.  It’s where I purchased more paper than I wish to acknowledge!  I have been a Pea since 2000 – the early days.

Back in the day, where I lived, there was only Michaels and AC Moore.  And neither carried anything worthwhile at that time.  As a serious scrapbooker, if I wanted anything of quality I had to shop online.  There just wasn’t any other option for me in New York at the time, or the thousands around me.

I began my online paper crafting bug in 1999 with The Scrapbooking Network, an online site that developed many friendships I still have to this day!  That led me to 2 Peas, a new online site that came about in ‘99.  It was a cool place to hang out, with an even more impressive array of the trendiest paper crafting supplies.

As will all things, as I grew in a new direction – card making and a stampin’ up demonstrator in 2002, I left a few things behind.  I still frequented the Two Peas garden from time to time, but we all move on.

I’ll never forget this amazing online site.  The amount of inspiration from the products, projects, videos and talented scrapbookers and yes, some stampers too!  It helped nourish my craft, and I’m forever grateful to Kristina and Jeffrey – the husband and wife team that opened and ran this amazing company for 15 years.  They gave me a place to shop, show off my creative juices and find a loving community.

They are closing their doors and taking the inspirational garden site offline July 10th.  There’s a huge sale 30-75% off.  Take a look at the store here, get some great deals while you can and say good bye to a scrapbooking giant.

Thank you Two Peas in a Bucket…you will be greatly missed!

Re-inventing a Good Idea

I love to design scrapbook pages.  Even more – I love to re-invent scrapbook pages!  This design is a re-invented Easter layout of mine.  My inspiration began with the idea of color blocking.  I wanted my new layout to be fun, colorful and have a different twist on the traditional spring colors.

My Easter layout below is quite traditional.  But you can see I kept several of the main ideas in place, just with a little twist.  The color blocked shared mat on the left was changed to have fewer stripes, but make a bigger impact with a wide shared color between the photos.

I used several embossing folders for backgrounds on the smaller shared mat in the Easter layout, while keeping the spring layout clean.  The journaling blocks were jazzed up a bit by using the Decorative Label punch.  To keep with the torn edge theme from the grass, I added a torn edge to the top of the spring layout.

The flowers were made using the Floral Fusion Sizzlit and curling up the edges a bit before adding Pearl Basic Jewel Accents.  The leaves for the flowers are the punched out pieces from the Lattice BigZ die.  I LOVE using pieces that are just throw aways! 🙂

The main journaling block is the Crumb Cake banner above.  I wanted it to almost look like a mantle holding a portrait of the photo above it.  The title below was made with the now retired Timeless Type Medium Alphabet (Sniff…Sniff – I LOVE those dies).

I love the end result, and overall – I love getting two layouts from one idea!  I challenge you to bring out your inner creative and re-design one of your own layouts!

Creatively yours –

Ingrid

Mini Scrapbook Album

Paper Flowers 204

National Scrapbooking Month begins tomorrow.  I thought I would jump right on in this week and start with one of my favorite ways to scrapbook – mini albums.  I just love making mini albums.  I always find it so cool that I can take 1-2 pieces of paper and make something that gets cherished a lifetime.  This project is definitely one of those.

It’s quite easy actually – I cut two strips of Pink Pirouette Paper lengthwise at 3.5 x 10.5 inches long.  Next score and fold them into thirds and attach them together.  I next cut two 3.625 squares of Early Espresso for the front and back of the album.  I decided to add some of our Whisper White Taffeta Ribbon through the rear piece before I adhered the back Espresso square which gives me a simple way to close my album.  You will want to stamp both pieces of Pink Pirouette in whichever stamp set you’d like, and sponge each edge of folded square in Early Espresso.  I used Artistic Etchings in Pink Pirouette.

For the front piece, I ran a piece of Whisper White cardstock through the Big Shot with the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder (my personal favorite!) and sponged the edges in Early Espresso.  I added a little Certainly Celery strip punched with the Scallop Trim Punch and added a little tag with the Decorative Label Punch.  I made a paper flower with the Fancy Flower Punch (look for my upcoming tutorial on Paper Roses).

For that perfect finishing touch, I added some Basic Pearl Jewels – I just love our multi-sized packages, they’re great! And lastly, my title Mom is done with the Timeless Type Junior Alphabet Sizzlits Dies and my Big Shot.  It’s hard to tell in these pictures, but the Cherry Cobbler Mom is sprayed with Gold Glow Smooch Spritz for the perfect final touch.

The best part of this mini album is that you can fit 8 pictures in it.  Ultimately it’s a great gift or keepsake.  Enjoy making them yourself!
