A Big Shot Birthday

004

My niece Chiarra is in Orlando for a visit for her 8th birthday.  I felt she needed a fun card with her name on it – since she never finds anything with her name!  So I took out my trusty Big Shot, some of my favorite BigZ dies and went to work.

009

I created a fun background with the Chevron Embossing Folder in Pink Pirouette and cut her name out using a retired set of BigZ dies in Rich Razzleberry.  For the greeting I used my Word program to write Happy  th Birthday in a fun font – Pea Mel in Between – it’s a handwriting font, and I added the Number 8 from the Typeset Alphabet BigZ dies.  I printed it on vellum and tore it before attaching it with two mini-brads.

003

Chiarra loved the card and especially the gifts to go with it!  There’s nothing like a personalized birthday card to make you feel special.

Creative Notebook Covers

Notebook Cover 001 Main

Who doesn’t love a great notebook and a handmade gift?  I had the privilege to help a good friend and fellow CG Crew team mate out with a fun little project she was doing – personalized notebooks for Admin Day this past week as one of their gifts.  Isn’t she a cool boss?  I’ve never had a boss make me something before – if that doesn’t say “I value you”, I don’t know what does!  Here is one of the notebooks that were made that day.

Amy got these cool Notebook covers that had a place to do something fun and creative in the cover. They came in a cute box and were just screaming to be personalized.  She had to make a few, so I just let the creative juices start flowing and this is what we ended up with for one of them.

Creative Tips:

  • We was going to make polka dots using sponge daubers, but then decided on a cleaner look and punched out polka dots with the 1” circle punch instead.
  • To give a little more emphasis to the name plate – we ran the Basic Black card stock through the big shot first with the Labels Framelits Collection and then through the Chevron TIEF folder.Notebook Cover 001 Name CU2
  • To really make it pop – we created a banner display behind it in the Tempting Turquoise, Tangerine Tango and Whisper White.
  • The initial was made using the Typeset Alphabet Bigz dies and the Silver Glimmer Paper.
  • We wanted to add a little flair, so we created hanging banners in the corner with Basic Black and Whisper White cardstock.  We added a Tangerine Tango striped Designer Series Paper from the Sycamore Street DSP Collection that was available during Sale-a-bration (now Retired).
  • To make the hanging banners we used a 1” Square punch.  It make the larger banner, we used a 1 3/8” Square Punch.
  •               Notebook Cover 001 Button CU Notebook Cover 001 Button Height

  • We added a little flair to the banners by putting one of the Silver Basic Designer Buttons from the Spring Catalog.
  • We threaded it with some Basic Black Baker’s Twine.  You might be asking  – wait Stampin’ Up! doesn’t carry that?  You would be correct – we made it from the Whisper White Baker’s twine – something that everyone should have.  What we did was run my Classic Basic Black ink pad over it on our Grid Paper and voila, Basic Black Baker’s Twine!
  • We then popped one of our Large Rhinestone Basic Jewels to the top for a little bling!
  • This project turned out super cute and I know the recipient will love it.  According to Amy, it totally fits her personality, and the fact that it was handmade will certainly make her feel appreciated.

Creative Tips:

  • I added texture to my Pink Pirouette flower from the Floral Frames Framelits by using the new Fancy Fan Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.
  • The So Saffron flower is the second smallest framelit in this great set of nested frames.  I highlighted it with a little sponging around the edges
  • I used the ornament punch to create the Wild Wasabi leaf for my three flowers.

  • To create my Elegant Eggplant smashed flower – I used two of the smallest flowers from this Framelit set.  Click here to watch my Smashed Flower Video
  • To make my banner flag end I used a square punch.
  • I wanted to add some small details without taking away from the flowers, so I added some paper piercing around the border of my Bashful Blue and then Pearl Basic Jewels in each corner.

Re-inventing a Good Idea

I love to design scrapbook pages.  Even more – I love to re-invent scrapbook pages!  This design is a re-invented Easter layout of mine.  My inspiration began with the idea of color blocking.  I wanted my new layout to be fun, colorful and have a different twist on the traditional spring colors.

My Easter layout below is quite traditional.  But you can see I kept several of the main ideas in place, just with a little twist.  The color blocked shared mat on the left was changed to have fewer stripes, but make a bigger impact with a wide shared color between the photos.

I used several embossing folders for backgrounds on the smaller shared mat in the Easter layout, while keeping the spring layout clean.  The journaling blocks were jazzed up a bit by using the Decorative Label punch.  To keep with the torn edge theme from the grass, I added a torn edge to the top of the spring layout.

The flowers were made using the Floral Fusion Sizzlit and curling up the edges a bit before adding Pearl Basic Jewel Accents.  The leaves for the flowers are the punched out pieces from the Lattice BigZ die.  I LOVE using pieces that are just throw aways! 🙂

The main journaling block is the Crumb Cake banner above.  I wanted it to almost look like a mantle holding a portrait of the photo above it.  The title below was made with the now retired Timeless Type Medium Alphabet (Sniff…Sniff – I LOVE those dies).

I love the end result, and overall – I love getting two layouts from one idea!  I challenge you to bring out your inner creative and re-design one of your own layouts!

Ingrid

Apothecary Accents Butterfly

This is a quick and fun project.  There is nothing better than a detailed card that I can make in ten minutes or less.  And this card definitely hits the mark.  It’s clean, simple and great for any occasion.  I love the neutral colors – Sahara Sand and Whisper White, and even the fact that nothing is stamped!

I have completely fallen in love with our new Essentials Paper Piercing Templates.  They take a simple die cut, such as this large background made with Apothecary Accents Framelits, created with our Big Shot, or Punches and instantly give them character.

Creative Tips –

  • Use all the elements of the corner guide to see exactly where you want to paper pierce.  I used the solid line for this card, but keep in mind to use the length of the 1/16th inch measurements in addition to the edge of the template as well.  You’ll see that the lines are short and long, line those up and you have four different depths to use for your guides to perfectly pierced lines!
  • Pick up your Basic Pearls Jewel Accents with your paper piercer to easily grab the glue dot underneath the Pearls.  When I first started using the Pearl accents, I couldn’t get them off the sheet perfectly each time.  My Ah Ha moment came when I decided to use a metal assist with my Paper Piercer or Paper Snips and I’ve never have a problem since!
  • Use our Stampin’ Dimensionals in partial spots to highlight an object.  Who says just because you use a dimensional to pop something up it ALL has to be elevated?  Here you can see that I adhered the center of my butterfly down with just regular Snail adhesive, but elevated the wings to give it the appearance of in flight.  Check out this project to see how I created a waiving banner too.

The butterfly was made with our cool Beautiful Wings Embosslit Folder that cuts and embosses at the same time – I LOVE those! I added the Designer Frames Textured Impressions oval in the middle to highlight the butterfly.  It was the perfect accent to keep the Die Cut white.

Overall, this is a cost effective, simple yet elegant card that was made in a matter of minutes.  The really cool thing is that it looks nothing like that! So, check – look achieved!

Still in Style

One of the many things I love about stamping is that everything old is always everything new for me.  One of the very first techniques that I learned is the rock and roll technique.  It’s an oldie, but definitely a goodie.  Paired with some of the coolest stuff out there, you’re project will pop right off the page.

First I ran the Garden Green cardstock through my Big Shot using the Flower Garden Embossing Template and then stamped with the Kindness Matters stamp set (available in the catalog – but can also be FREE with a Sale-A-Bration order).  It’s a simple but fun card.  Below are two samples – one with just stamping the image off in one color and then punching it up with the rock and roll technique.

Here I stamped off the butterflies in Garden Green for a lighter shade before adding the Thanks in fully inked Garden Green.

And this one is taken to another level.  I rocked and rolled the butterflies in So Saffron and Garden Green for a little pop.  I also used the direct to paper technique on the Garden Green cardfront to give it a little more depth.

Now it’s your turn!
