Stamp of Approval: Winterhaven Blog Hop

Winterhaven Stamp of Approval

Welcome to the Winterhaven Stamp of Approval blog hop – Day Two! Doesn’t Winterhaven sound like a place you want to be?!! You’ve probably just arrived from Lisa Harrolle’s blog. I’ll be honest – she’s one of my muses. I get SO inspired looking at her work!

The Winterhaven Stamp of Approval collection goes on sale Tuesday, October 10th at 9 AM to the waitlist, then if any are left – to the public at 6 PM. The last two never made it to the public, so be sure you’re on the waitlist.

If you want to ensure that you get yourself a collection and of the two add-on dies (those are limited), you may want to check out StampNation. StampNation members (I’ve been a member for 5 years) will get the chance to buy the night before in the Live Pajama Release Party! Those are crazy fun!

If you missed everything that is in the collection – be sure to check out the past week’s blog posts over at Catherine’s blog or YouTube channel. She shows all the products and add-ons and projects made with each.

Winterhaven Stamp of Approval Collection

Here’s what you’ll get…

  • Here We Come A-Caroling Stamp Set
  • ‘Tis the Season Stamp Set
  • Good Stuff Stamp Set
  • Ornamental Background Stamp
  • Good Stuff Dies
  • Joy Wreath Dies
  • Winterhaven Village Dies
  • Project Packed PDF

Today you’ll see me focus on two stamp sets from the Winterhaven Stamp of Approval Collection – ‘Tis the Season and Here We Come A-Caroling. You’ll see an add on die set (‘Tis the Season), Good Stuff Dies and even the Ornamental Background Stamp used in a supporting role as well. Be sure to stop by on Release day for more projects with the remaining pieces in the Winterhaven collection as well!

Watercolored Poinsettias

I literally can not put down the ‘Tis the Season stamp set and add-on dies! This project showcases three of my favorite images from this fun, quirky Christmas floral and foliage set illustrated by Lisa Kirkbride. To get the stamped mulit color watercolor look, I utilized my MISTI and stamped my Poinsettias first in It’s a Girl and then just splotched in Rockin’ Red.

To get the watercolor look – first ink up your image, then lightly mist it – wet enough that it’ll look like watercolor without being too wet that it blurs and loses detail. I spritz quickly twice with my Distress Sprayer.

The holly leaves are in Mint to Be and the Mistletoe is first stamped in It’s a Boy then Mint to Be. The splatter is Icing on the Cake – and the perfect finishing touch along with light gold embossing on the edges.

You’ll see in the next project how the greeting is long – here I stamped each word individually so they were grouped for interest. Metallic Gold Sparkle Embossing Glitter is the perfect compliment to the watercolor. It looks like sparkly gold leaf – it’s just gorgeous!!!

Since it’s a watercolor, and the star of the show, I wanted it to look like a framed piece of artwork – so the 5.5 x 4.25 watercolor got a full frame of .5″ Chocolate behind it.

Neutral Christmas

Next up is a fun take on neutrals. I masked a center, stamped several foliage images from the ‘Tis the Season stamp set in Icing on the cake, and Embossed a few berry images in Metallic Gold Sparkle Embossing Glitter for a frame.

A straightforward embossed Merry Christmas in the same Metallic Gold Sparkle Embossing Glitter, and a little color detailing and Voila! That’s it. It’s a simple, quick and elegant card – perfect as a masculine holiday card, right? And quite versatile – image this card with any kind of image!!

Snow and Mistletoe

The detail on this card is my favorite. It’s hard to capture in a photograph, so I hope I did it justice! For some reason, I was drawn to incorporating strong deep neutrals into my designs this year. Catherine’s new Smoke cardstock is perfect for holiday cards – I look at it like a version of silver.

First – you’ll want to stamp the awesome Ornamental background stamp on white in versamark, then emboss in Bright Opaque White by WOW.

I like to cut out my die cut images first in white and then stamp. The Poinsettia was just screaming to be in Rockin’ Red for that pop! I kept the foliage in embossed Gilded Gold, and embossed the Poinsettia middle and greeting as well.

Layer your pieces – emboss a little strip on a scrap (I use those 1/2 inch scraps you get when trimming down cardstock), adhere them all down and that’s it. You can easily mass produce this one.

The white embossed ornaments in the background really add something to this card. Some Metallic green sequins were the perfect embellishment as red and green are complimentary colors.

Be sure to stop by on Release day. I have a different version of this card that I think you’ll just love!

Joy to the World

Like our last project – this one too has some subtle embossing that makes this card. The Good Stuff dies that coordinate with the Good Stuff stamp set were the perfect shape for my little windows to the Carolers.

To make it a bit easier, create your colorful background on a long strip of watercolor paper and then cut out your shapes. I used the inner layering die from the Good Stuff Dies. That’s a rockin’ shape, right?!!

Ink blend the colors you wish to showcase – I wanted greens for behind my tree – so I used Aquatini, Grass Skirt, Lime Rickey and finished with Melon Ice. It was a cool combination! The next panel has Tiara overlapping with Party Dress. I love the center color those two create – so I left it to just the two. The third panel starts with Fiesta Blue, then Something Borrowed, finishing with Flirty Fuchsia.

Before stamping your carolers, make sure you’ve fully dried your inks! Next stamp the desired images from the Here we come a-caroling stamp set….I LOVE that stamp set designed by Shawna Clingerman. The images give you SO many options! (come back release day for a watercolor with more from that set!)

To offer some interest in the background – stamp the music notes in the background on the black twice at the bottom in Black Glint embossing powder by WOW. On the card base around the perimeter, emboss several images from ‘Tis the Season in Bright Opaque White by WOW. This offers a rich background for these bright windows without taking away from the card.
